Description
Pholiota adiposa is a species of fungus in the family Strophariaceae commonly known as the chestnut mushroom. It was originally described by German naturalist August Batsch in 1786 as a species of Agaricus. Paul Kummer transferred it to the genus Pholiota in 1871. It is found in Europe, where it grows both saprophytically and as a weak parasite on living and dead stems of European beech trees.
Forms a scaled cap 5-10 cm in diameter. A tasty mushroom with a slightly nutty taste with a firm texture. The entire mushroom is edible making for a high return on investment.
The Freckled Chestnut is similar to Shiitake in cropping cycles. This culture will colonize grain or hardwood very quickly but can take 2-3 weeks to mature from primordia stage
This culture has been bred and optimized specifically for commercial growers but is also suitable for everyone from hobbyist to professional.
