Description

When grown at or below 65°f the fruiting bodies formed are deep brown in color with that nice scaling so typical of the Lentinula genus and it’s kin while warmer temperatures tend to produce lighter, thinner fleshed fruitbodies. The shelf life of this mushroom is almost unparalleled. Sterilized substrates will need a minimum of 90 days to “ripen” and mature, with a longer maturation period linked to dramatically larger fruitbodies.

Primordia formation is induced though some form of shock, usually a dramatic drop in temperature (cold shock) to simulate the natural climate w/ lower night-time temperatures or by physically “thumping” or “spanking” the blocks or logs to simulate a tree falling.
