Description
Pleurotus populinus (commonly, Aspen Oyster) is a variant of Oyster Mushroom found exclusively on trees from the Genus Populus which includes species such as Aspen, Poplar & Cottonwood. The wood from these trees is particularly high in Tannic Acid which greatly restricts the species that are able to grow on them. Aspen & Poplar wood is very common as an affordable construction, cabinetry, pallet and plywood material, so you may try sourcing sawdust from local woodworkers, but you can also find Aspen shavings sold as pet bedding at most major supermarkets & pet stores.
Substrate: Hardwood sawdust (aspen, poplar, cottonwood)
Colonizing: 70-75F
Fruiting: 60-74F
Air Exchange: 3-4 per hour
